This is how we have become hostages of digital marketing and capitalism; information is no longer available to everyone because of unnecessary noise. Often we read and watch the content that is imposed by companies or that society that uses search engine algorithms for their own benefit. At this point, one wants to be proud of a resource like Wikipedia, a great place with a history developed by a great community. However, news, events, and new information are influenced daily by media owners, and an honest person is always left influenced by different sides.
Great, now we understand what went wrong. It’s hard to say exactly when this started to happen; some would say since the beginning of time, and on the Internet, when it became a large audience. But what we want to talk about is not history, but how we can change that?
It’s worth introducing a new concept of information retrieval. Thanks to colleagues at OpenAI – there was great news recently about the creation of a model for generating squeezes from books; such a model allows you to get information without “water”. This is exactly what the modern search engine lacks. Now to find information, you have to find sites that mention it and find the information already on the site.
– Advertising
– Blank information
– Deception in the headlines
– Lots of text.
This is what appears on many sites. The user wants an answer. Immediately. And let’s imagine the option of searching for ready-made squeezes of information, on any resource. When we search on the new “Google”, we will get not a list of pages, but one single one with picked up results. Yes, you can criticize now. This format will please exactly 50% of users, because there is no more direct access to the site – users do not need to visit them – they can now find out everything at once.
It is possible to present the pros and cons of this approach, such topics are worth investigating, but sooner or later such a service will be able to help a large number of users. Students, scientists, schoolchildren, and everyone else will be able to use the Internet and get what they need, saving their time.
